Morgan Barbuto (I) – Golf: Morgan Barbuto will join the golf team of St. Lawrence University. Although he played both hockey and golf at Boston Latin School, he ultimately chose to pursue golf at a higher level. His recruitment process began during the summer before junior year, where he independently reached out to coaches and played in tournaments. His own drive and his coaches’ interest early on kept him motivated despite the challenging and lengthy recruitment process.

Ellen Barnat (I) – Crew: Ellen Barnat was recruited to the University of Miami’s rowing team. Barnat began rowing during her sixie year, and she recounts how the introduction “gave me the fundamentals of knowing how to row and also just the love for the sport.” The summer before junior year, she joined Community Rowing, forming priceless friendships and winning gold at the Canada Henley Regatta.

Quinn Bowles (I) – Wrestling: Case Western Reserve University will welcome Quinn Bowles to its Division III wrestling team this fall. Bowles notes that even though he started late in the recruitment process, he is excited to continue his wrestling career at a collegiate level. Despite a rough shoulder injury, he persevered through and learned that progress is nonlinear. Bowles advises other ambitious athletes to keep pushing themselves constantly: “It takes a lot of sacrifice to be great at something, but I hope you find a way to fall in love with the process of pursuing your own greatness.”

Cecilia Carey (I) – Crew: Joining Merrimack College’s Division I women’s rowing team is Cecilia Carey. In her experience, the recruitment process was not particularly complicated. From rowing at such a high level, Carey has learned the importance of teamwork and mental fortitude. She advises newcomers to the sport to “reach out to any of the girls to at least tag along to practice for a day or two. Rowing is a sport that you can’t start until your teenage years, so everyone is brand new to it and learning at the same time.”

Tobias Damon (I) – Soccer: Tobias Damon will not be attending college next year and will instead play with an academy team in Spain. His goal afterwards is to return to the United States and play soccer at a collegiate level and continue his passion which he describes “brings me joy and pushes me to be a better and more motivated version of myself.”

Lucas Evans (I) – Baseball: Lucas Evans has committed to the University of Massachusetts Boston to continue his baseball career at a collegiate level. He chose UMass for both its proximity to home and program fit. Evans notes that the toughest part of his baseball passion is getting cut from teams, concluding, “There will be bumps on the way, but if you stick with it, you will get the outcome you want.”

Charlotte Fisher (I) – Crew: This fall, Charlotte Fisher will become a member of the Women’s lightweight rowing team at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a recruited athlete. During her freshman year, Fisher joined the BLS boys’ rowing team as a coxswain, which required her to gain confidence to establish herself and gain respect as the leader. These skills will carry over into her collegiate career at Wisconsin.

Kate O’Riordan (I) – Track & Field: Joining the Division III track and field team at Occidental College is Kate O’Riordan. O’Riordan started pole vaulting during sophomore year, but multiple injuries prevented her from vehemently pursuing the college recruitment process. After receiving a letter from Occidental’s track and field program, however, she researched the school and met with coaches, which helped her realize that “Oxy was the place I wanted to be: a school with incredible academic resources and the opportunity to continue organized athletics, a huge part of who I am.”

Georgia Stavros (I) – Volleyball: This fall, Saint Anselm College will be welcoming Georgia Stavros into its Division II volleyball team. She started her recruitment process during her freshman year when coaches proposed the idea of playing volleyball in college. This prospect prompted Stavros to email coaches from all over the country, who then scouted her during tournaments. She ultimately chose Saint Anselm for its high-level athletics and outstanding nursing program.

Vanessa Vu (I) – Tennis: The Babson College tennis team will be welcoming Vanessa Vu. Vu has been a varsity tennis player for six years now and considers the BLS girls’ tennis team her family. The team has fostered a strong community and support system for her that has pushed her forward during times of adversity. In Vu’s search for college, she sought to find a similarly welcoming environment.
