Deliet Tewelde’s remarkable journey through BLS has been a testament to her perseverance and growth.

I met Deliet in sixie year and watched her grow into one of the strongest people I have ever met.

Although many have labeled Deliet as clumsy or forgetful, she has worked quietly yet diligently to rid herself of that persona. She has spent countless hours studying at the library and had many lunches in the guidance office to work on college applications.

Indeed, her efforts were undeniably successful, as she has blossomed into an exceptional writer and our friend group’s personal essay editor.

Deliet’s story is not just one of academic success (a full ride to UMass Boston), but also of significant personal development, as she has overcome unimaginable obstacles. Deliet confronts her problems and seeks help and guidance when she needs it most.

She has never given up on herself, ever. Although I am trying, it will take me years to achieve the kind of resilience that she so effortlessly carries.

She is my inspiration, motivating me everyday to put myself first: Don’t watch yourself get hurt. Instead, address the issue. At the same time, she has taught me not to blame myself for having issues or things to work on.

As I’ve strived towards graduation, Deliet has been with me every step of the way, and I don’t think I could have done it without her. We teach each other something new every day and support each other through our challenges (specifically late assignments, a frustrating issue we share); thus, whenever I am having a crisis, achieve a personal victory or am angry beyond words, my first call is to Deliet.

She has listened to me talk about the same boy for hours, or go on and on about a show she’s never even seen before. She shows such genuine interest in the ideas, opinions and lives of others. We have shared so many laughs, as there is never a dull moment with her; I never feel like my endless yapping is annoying her.

Furthermore, the way she cares for her loved ones, especially her brothers, is extraordinary. She is an amazing sister, and I’ve never seen someone so dedicated to their family and loyal to their friends.

When I think about Deliet, so many wonderful qualities come to mind and I wish I could share them all. I will end with this: Deliet, you are incredibly intelligent, endlessly caring, unbelievably hilarious and I am honored to call you my friend.
