Girls’ Volleyball
The girls’ volleyball team is anticipating another exciting year. With the team practicing hard, their “chemistry and communication have become stronger, allowing […] more cohesive[ness] with each game,” according to Captain Cynthia Wang (I). They expect to progress as the season plays out and, of course, want a fun, memorable season while pushing to compete at their best.
Girls’ Swim
The girls’ swim team is excited to kick off their season. Kumba Marah (II), a member of the team, says, “I am looking forward to the meets and winning more meets as a team. I am also looking forward to getting closer to all my teammates.” With upcoming competitions against Notre Dame Academy and Malden Catholic, the BLS girls’ swim team is ecstatic to compete with the hope of making states.
Girls’ Soccer
Last season, the girls’ soccer team made it into the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association playoffs, and this year they aim to go even further in the elimination games. The team played their first official game of the season on the first day of school against Ursuline Academy and won 2-0. They are looking forward to another season together with great results.
Boys’ Soccer
The boys’ varsity soccer team is known for their intense sports environment and strong work ethic. Although they tied their first three games, the boys have much more in store for the season. The team is practicing hard and looking forward to future wins. With many games left in the season and matches against Sharon High School and Waltham High School coming up, they are ready to score goals, win games and hopefully make the playoffs.
Cross Country
The BLS cross country team has been working hard this season. Despite many of their top runners graduating last year, they have been rebuilding the team. They are looking forward to the conference championship on October 24, where the boys hope to win their division for the fifth year in a row, as well as the Division I Championship on November 8. With many new members, they are excited to see the development of the team this year.
Golf
Though they had a rocky start, the Boston Latin School golf team is looking forward to their upcoming matches. They are currently in a good position as a team and hope to qualify for the sectional tournament and improve their record. The many new players on the team “is huge for the team morale,” according to Captain Morgan Barbuto (I). In addition, a large senior class, excited to play well in their last season, has brought a lot of energy. Wish them luck!
Football
This year, Latin is determined to give us a season we’ve never seen before. With only three seniors, this year’s team has the smallest number of upperclassmen in its history. While some may find this concerning, Captain Xavier King (I) reflects, “Our guys are coming together and not only improving at the game but building chemistry.” The team started the season off strong with a 28-6 victory against East Boston, and they hope to continue advancing from here.
Cheerleading
Full of spirit and energy, the cheer team is ready for this year’s season. An important part of their sport is team bonding, and they are already building toward that with their team picnic, which took place before school started. With nine graduated seniors gone, this year’s three seniors have “big shoes to fill,” shares Captain Carin Ruan (I). Even though the team dearly misses them, Ruan says there are “many amazing juniors [supporting] us in guiding the new [and] young[er] members.”
