After the return of a successful fall sports season at Boston Latin School, it is time for a shift indoors to welcome the incoming winter sports teams. Looking forward to a normal return this season, the teams are all eager to begin where they left off last year and strive for success.

Athletes are eager for the season to start and excited to put their purple and white uniforms back on. After the challenges faced this and last year, “It makes a difference having something to look forward to after school instead of just going home,” says Ruby Donovan (II).

Boys’ Basketball

As Coach Jerry Etienne enters his second year coaching the boys’ varsity basketball team, he will have plenty of talent on display. After a disappointing campaign last year, his team is seeking more success this season. With tryouts quickly approaching, the boys have been putting in the work off-season and are earnestly awaiting their first game.

Girls’ Basketball

Last season, the girls’ basketball team made it to the Round of 32 in the Division 1 state tournament. With a similar roster, the girls will be looking to advance even further this year. Captain Paige Fitzgerald (I) is “excited for the upcoming season and […] [looks] to carry that momentum into our games this year.”

Cheer

After an exciting Dual County League (DCL) tournament on November 5, the cheer team took home many trophies. The varsity team saw their hard work pay off with a first-place finish, followed by a second-place finish at regionals. After many victories in the fall, they hope to replicate this success in the winter and practice new routines.

Fencing

This season, the fencing team is ready to compete for a trophy. Last year, they competed at states and the girls’ team won first place for the sixth consecutive year. They have dominated the competition for the past several years and seek to continue their winning streak. Along with other BLS winter teams, they hope for an entire season of athletic success and fun!

Boys’ Hockey

Although the boys’ hockey team had a heartbreaking season last year after losing in overtime to Quincy during round two of the state playoffs, they are ready to get back on the ice and compete. This year, the boys seek revenge and are hungrier than ever for success. Led by captain Patrick Harnan (I), the team excitedly anticipates tryouts and looks forward to having an uninterrupted season.

Girls’ Hockey

The BLS girls’ hockey team will have a similar roster to what it had last year. With the players already comfortable with each other, the team will be looking to take advantage of this and start the season strong. As they made it to the Round of 32 in Division 2 last season, the girls want to repeat last season’s success and take it even further.

Indoor Track

On November 5, boys’ and girls’ cross country competed at DCLs. The boys won first in the Foley Division and second overall. The girls placed in every race as well and received multiple medals. Following success in cross country, both indoor teams look to set new records and cross the finish line in style.

Boys’ Swim

Although the boys’ swim team had an unusual season last year, they are ready to dive right back into things. After a handful of swimmers made states last year, the team is hoping to see more of its athletes qualify. Similar to other winter sports, they are ready to compete again and are hoping for a successful season.

Wrestling

Following the trying circumstances last year, the wrestling team is excited to compete in a more normal season this year. Captain Alex Greene-Barrios (II) says, “The team is really strong […] and excited to be back into it.”. They will be ready to hit the mats and banner up.
